How Electric Dog Fences Work

What is Dog Guard Out-of-Sight Fencing

Dog Guard Out-of-Sight Fencing is the safest, most effective alternative to traditional fencing. Our affordable system uses a veterinarian-approved combination of dog training and high end electronics to give your pet freedom and safety and give you peace of mind.

How It Works

A small transmitter and surge protector are mounted in an area that is either indoors or covered (usually a garage or carport) that has a power supply for a standard 110 AC adapter. A durable, insulated, solid steel core, copper clad boundary wire is installed just below ground level (3-4 inches) around the perimeter of your property (or wherever you wish). This transmits a radio signal to a lightweight, water-proof receiver attached to the dog's collar. When your pet attempts to cross the desired boundary, the signal from the wire tells the receiver to give your dog a warning. If the warning is ignored, the receiver gives your dog the full correction to direct them back into the yard for safety.

Our system has 2 zones. The first zone is the adjustable "warning zone." This zone can be adjusted for training to fit your dog's breed, size, and temperment, and can be changed at any time. The second zone is the full correction zone that is triggered if the warning is ignored.

We then show you how to properly train your dog with a short series of sessions (usually less than a week). These sessions are important to let your dog know that inside the boundary is a safe area, and the warning or correction is the result of disobeying the boundaries.

The Installation Process

Example Fence Diagrams

Basic Perimeter Loop

Most systems are layed out in a standard loop. This is where the boundary wire encompasses your yard and home giving your dog access to the entire property.

Two wires come from the transmitter board and separate at the perimiter to make a circuit. Because the wires are twisted together before they split, the signal is canceled out in this "twisted wire" section. So, your dog never knows those wires are there.

If you have any areas inside the perimeter wire you would like to protect, we can run some "inner-loops" to keep your pet away from those areas. This may be good if you have a pool, garden, or flower beds.

Double Back Loop

The double back loop can cover 1, 2, or 3 sides of your property. Ideal for customers with traditional fencing on part of the property. Also great for Condos or Duplexes.

Pinch-offs/2 Zones

This creates 2 different zones or areas. This allows you to keep your pet in which ever zone you like. The only way to get from one zone to the other is through the house.

This also works well for people who only want their dog in the back yard, but are afraid the dog may sneak through the front door when it's in the house.
